Predatory animals stalk other animals for food. The main reason these animals are hunted are to protect livestock and humans. Predatory animals are also often trapped or killed for their fur. Some examples of predatory animals hunted in Texas are pumas and bobcats.

The puma, also called a mountain lion or cougar, is a powerful predator that roams North America. Pumas like to pray on deer, as well as small prey like coyote, rabbits, and hogs.  They hunt at night, early dawn, and late dusk.  They stalk their prey until they have a chance to pounce and bite the back of its neck.  When they kill a large animal, they feed on it for several days.  Pumas once roamed all of the U.S, nut today they are in small numbers now because of hunters.  Pumas need a lot of room.  Only a few of them can live in a 30 mile radius.  Pumas usually don’t attack people, unless they are unable to find other food, or feel threatened.
